چکیده

In the transport field, much attention is given to estimation and mitigation of CO2 emission. Much prior research has estimated CO2 emission using aggregate data on total energy consumed or average vehicles kilometres travelled (VKT), while not considering the influence on emission of factors that operate at a more resolved functional level, such as the neighbourhood-scale built environment (e.g. Dhakal, 2009; Cai et al., 2012). Very few studies have so far used disaggregate data to accurately estimate transport CO2 emission based on individuals’ daily urban travel, particularly for developing countries, possibly due to a lack of detailed travel data.

Changing Urban Form and Transport CO2 Emissions: An Empirical Analysis of Beijing, China

Decentralization development and changing urban form will increase the mobility and contribute to global CO2 emissions, in particular for developing countries which are experiencing rapid economic growth and urban expansion. In this paper, an integrated analytical framework, which can quantify the impact of changing urban form on commuting CO2 emissions, is presented. This framework simultaneou...

A system dynamics approach to scenario analysis for urban passenger transport energy consumption and CO2 emissions: A case study of Beijing

With the accelerating process of urbanization, developing countries are facing growing pressure to pursue energy savings and emission reductions, especially in urban passenger transport. In this paper, we built a Beijing urban passenger transport carbon model, including an economy subsystem, population subsystem, transport subsystem, and energy consumption and CO2 emissions subsystem using Syst...

Investigating the Differences in CO2 Emission in the Transport Sector Across Iranian Provinces: Evidence from a Quantile Regression Model

Improving the quality of the environment is a desired goal of any economy. In this regard, given the important role of the transportation sector in the emission of pollutants, policy makers should focus on identifying the factors affecting CO2 emissions in the transport sector. This study examines the factors affecting the differences of CO2 emissions in the transportation sector in Iranian pro...

System dynamics modeling for urban energy consumption and CO2 emissions: A case study of Beijing, China

It is clear that city must be part of the solution if an urbanizing world is to grapple successfully with ecological challenges such as energy depletion and climate change. A system dynamics model was developed in this study using STELLA platform to model the energy consumption and CO2 emission trends for the City of Beijing over 2005–2030. Results show that the total energy demand in Beijing i...

Carbon Storage and Sequestration of Urban Street Trees in Beijing, China

Anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from cities have significantly increased over the past several decades along with rapid urbanization. To what extent anthropogenic CO2 emissions generated from cities can be offset through conserving or increasing carbon (C) stored within urban areas themselves is a significant scientific question. The role of urban street trees in offsetting anthrop...
